Published on 28 April 2023 10:16 AM

The Befriending Service and Caroline Court Day Centre were pleased to welcome Robert Largan MP for the High Peak to Hope on Friday 21st April. Robert met with Katy Pugh (CEO), Heather Shepherd (Caroline Court Day Centre Manager), Victoria Fowler (The Befriending Service Coordinator) as well as the wider Hope Day Centre staff and members. The visit provided an opportunity to talk about the work AUKDD does in the High Peak and across Derby and Derbyshire, as well as highlighting the challenges that Older People and the Voluntary Sector faces. The team were able to showcase AUKDD’s positive impact as well as encouraging Robert to fly the AUKDD flag in conversations in Westminster, with statutory services and with other partners/stakeholders.

Katy Pugh, CEO said:“ We were delighted Robert wanted to see for himself some of the great work our teams do every day. It was good to be able to discuss some of the strategic issues we face as a charity and the needs of older people in his constituency and to feel that he would be supporting older people, carers and services like ours”

Robert Largan, MP said: "It was really great to visit Age UK's Day Centre in Hope and to meet the team who run local services in our area. I learned a lot about how the organisation works, especially the befriending service and it was clear that Victoria, Heather and everyone else at Age UK Derby and Derbyshire are really passionate about what they do. It was fun to watch Shooting Stars being played. Thank you to the team for hosting me and for a very nice cup of tea!"
