Jack cycling to their next point in their virtual journey

What inspired you to start fundraising for Age UK Hertfordshire?

"Many challenges were taking place during lockdown and we wanted to do our part to help support charities when so many fundraising events were being cancelled and when as a family, our sporting commitments and external activities were at their lowest!"

She continued "With older people being the most impacted during this pandemic and having had weeks not seeing our parents and grandparents, we chose to support Age UK Hertfordshire for our fundraising. Our families are lucky to have friends, family and support but we hoped to help those many older people who feel they have no one to turn to for support."

What was your fundraising project?

"Jack ski races and we have a place in Morzine in the French Alps where we base ourselves. Lockdown cut our winter season short and we missed the mountains terribly. We therefore decided to virtually cycle, walk and bounce (Jack’s watch calculates km bounced on the trampoline) the 1056km from our home in Hertfordshire to Morzine."

How did you gain support, and how did this benefit your project?

"We raised funds using Just Giving, set up our page and shared it around on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter plus we mailed friends and family. Jack also shared it with his school who were supportive and also shared the details."

What was the best part about your fundraising journey?

"We virtually chose cities to visits en route which we normally don’t have time to see. Enjoying a glass of Champagne at Reims was a good high point (for me!)"

How would you sum up your fundraising experience?

"The challenge gave us a focus in June during lockdown, we were staying active whilst raising funds during a time when the days felt endless."
