Let's Talk April Lunch Clubs and Food Shopping
Published on 25 April 2025 02:36 PM
The April 2025 Let's Talk was all about nutrition - good nutrition for better ageing, local lunch clubs and how to do an online supermarket shop so you can get your food and groceries delivered to your door.
Catch-up on the talks and make use of the resources that were shared at the event, even if you weren't there on the day!
❤️ Nutrition and Ageing, Whittington Health
What are the foods that are particularly important, not just for a balanced diet, but when we are getting older?
Good nutrition can help with maintaing independence and mobility, support immune function, reduce risk of chronic conditions such as heart disease, help maintain a healthy weight and energy levels.
See the slides from the talk by Mariam Majidi, Community Dietician at Whittington Health for guidance about 'how good nutrition can reduce the risk of common age-related conditions' and good sources of further information.
❤️ Elizabeth House - Lunch Clubs and Food projects
Fancy popping into a local venue for a free or affordable lunch with some company? See the slides from the talk by Alice Walters, Community Leader at Elizabeth House, who shared details of their Blue House Club for over 50s that takes place every Wednesday 11am - 1pm. This offers the opportunity for a chat and/or gentle exercise, followed by a hot, healthy meal and various activities.
Alice also shared details of six other lunch clubs across Islington and details of other food projects and food banks. Check the presentation to see what's near you.

❤️ How to do an online shop and Islington digital support, PPCP
Find it difficult to get to a supermarket and to bring all your groceries home? If so, how about trying an online shop? Even if you do most of your shopping in person, online shopping can be handy for heavier items or on an occasion when you're unable to get to the shops.
We're very appreciative that Vijai Patel, PPCP who presented at Let's Talk has created a special video for Age UK Islington clients providing step-by step help to show you how to do an online shop! You'll need a smartphone, tablet or pc to be able to do so.
If you still need some help to get started, you can book one-to-one help from a Digital Support volunteer at a number of Islington Community Centres.

Getting Digital Support
If you're not feeling confident about trying an online shop yourself, or for help with other tech-related issues, you could drop-in to one of the PPCP Tea,Tech and Biscuits digital support sessions running at a number of Islington community centres. They can help with quick queries if you drop-in or you can book a 50 minute session in advance:
See a list of venues and book at: linksta.cc/@ttab or call PPCP on 0203928937.
Hear from Let's Talk attendees
We asked a couple of the Let's Talk attendees about their online shopping experiences and what they were hoping to learn from this month's session!
This attendee talks about same-day supermarket deliveries if you place your order before a certain time.
