Heating or Eating: What would you choose?

Published on 09 December 2019 09:30 AM

Take a few moments to think about what you would choose if you couldn't afford both. It's a really hard choice, isn't it?

As we are now waking up to colder temperatures each morning it’s easy to take central heating and warm dinners for granted. Both heating and eating are vital for our health in the cold weather, but winter hardship – having to choose between heating and eating - causes over 50,000 deaths every year in England and Wales.  Locally 650 people will die this winter because they can’t afford both food and fuel. A staggering fact is that 10% of our counties’ households are in fuel poverty.

But you could help older people locally so they didn’t have to choose. Your donation could save lives this winter.

Could you give up a few takeaway coffees and donate £10 to the Heating or Eating campaign? Or perhaps you could donate the cost of a weekly fuel bill at £22.50 or a weekly grocery shop at £38.75. If you receive a winter fuel allowance and don’t need it, could you donate it to help others who need extra help?

Any donation will help older people in your community to survive this winter. Please donate today.
