Our befriending services offer companionship and support to older people who are lonely or isolated.
Our Gift of Friendship befriending programme brings caring, trained volunteers together with older people who may be feeling lonely or isolated. We’re here to offer friendly support, a listening ear, and gentle encouragement to help you feel more connected and confident.
Where the programme is available
The Gift of Friendship befriending programme is currently available in:
• Leicester
• Oadby
• Wigston
• Birstall
• Hinckley
All our volunteer befrienders are carefully recruited. They undergo an enhanced DBS check and provide satisfactory references, ensuring a safe and supportive experience.
This programme has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Julia Rausing Trust, provided via Age UK National.
What we offer
• Time-limited support (up to six months), tailored to you and your goals. This might include building confidence to attend a new social activity or take a first step back into your community.
• Ongoing, regular contact with a friendly befriending volunteer. This can take place face to face or through telephone calls, depending on what works best for you.
• Help to access Age UK’s national telephone befriending service, if you would benefit from additional support.
