Leaflet Distributor

A volunteer is needed for 1 to 2 days in every 6 weeks to visit our charity shops in North Leicester and Leicestershire, taking out the charity’s leaflets to replenish leaflet displays including tidying leaflets, removing old versions and replacing broken dispensers as required. Leaflets will need to be collected from Head Office at Lansdowne House, Leicester. The role could include time in the office preparing the leaflets to go out to each shop, or this can be undertaken by office based volunteers. A car owner and driver is needed. The person also needs to be organised and be able to communicate with shop staff and volunteers.

The areas to be covered include Birstall, Beaumont Leys, Shepshed, Syston, Melton Mowbray, Loughborough, Uppingham and Ashby. Not all areas need to be undertaken by the same volunteer.

Lunch Club Assistant

Volunteers are required to serve meals and drinks at our Lunch Club at Thorncroft Building off London Road, Leicester. Experience is not necessary, however, a pleasant personality is required.

Car Drivers

We now have volunteering opportunities in the City Day Centres as a Volunteer Car Driver, you are required to transport Age UK service users with your own vehicle from the home to the Day Centre and return, supporting the service user during travel. Main duties involve; Assisting, collecting, and returning service users to and from their home in the mornings and then returning them later in the day. Mileage is paid on a monthly basis. Valid MOT, Tax and business Insurance is required (business insurance for a volunteer is free to add to any policy)

Day Care Volunteer/Passenger Assistant

We are looking for volunteers to help our day care organisers to develop and maintain our wellbeing services. The role involves working to support activities, including planned excursions. Main duties will consist of providing support and assistance to users of our day care groups.

As a Passenger Assistant, you would also be assisting Age UK service users that attend our day centres via Age UK Transport. The main duties involve assisting the Minibus driver in collecting and returning service users from their residence, assisting service users to and from the vehicle, alerting the driver to any issues while in travel - alongside assisting at the day centre in between journeys with activities, service user support, trips out and meals.

Befriending Volunteers

Volunteers required visiting and providing companionship to lonely/isolated older people living in Leicester City. You may also support older people to access the community and take part in activities, social events and groups that may interest them. Good listening skills, honesty, empathy, and reliability to commit to visiting on a regular basis are essential.

Telephone Befriending Volunteers

We are looking for dedicated volunteers who can give their time to support older people who are at risk of social isolation. As a telephone befriender you are part of a small group of dedicated volunteers who make calls from a city based call centre to older people to help alleviate any isolation and loneliness they may be experiencing.

Mentoring Volunteers

We are looking for dedicated volunteers who can give a few hours a week to support older people who are at risk of social isolation. As a Mentor you support older people who need short- to mid-term support following a change in circumstances such as reduced mobility or isolation or loss of confidence after a spell in hospital.

Anything Goes Project Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to facilitate activity sessions and/or social groups for small numbers of people who have been experiencing loneliness and/or isolation within 5 wards (Belgrave, Spinney Hills, Evington, Thurncourt, and Wycliffe). You will need to be aware of cultural differences and to show empathy to clients, and in some cases, the ability to speak more than one language (Asian and/or Eastern European).

Shop Assistant

Volunteers required assisting customers, principally members of the public, to make purchases of clothes and miscellaneous items donated to the charity in a ‘High Street’ shop setting. You must be able to act as shop cashier as well as maintain and assist in stock control. Major tasks include preparing donated items for sale, which may consist of sorting and steam pressing clothing, washing and cleaning items of bric-a-brac, polishing furniture and preparing books.

Men in Sheds

Volunteers are needed to assist the co-ordinator with the day-to-day running of the shed, with particular emphasis on Health and Safety, providing guidance to new members, and keeping the Shed in good general condition.

Warehouse Assistant

You must be able to act as shop cashier as well as maintain and assist in stock control. Major tasks include preparing donated items for sale, which may consist of sorting, cleaning, and polishing furniture.

Digital Champions

We need volunteers to engage older people with using Digital Technology IE surfing the net, emails, social media, Skype, etc and/or teach basic computer skills in a range of community setting, in a group or on a 1:1 basis. There is no regular commitment required, and the number of days and times will be negotiated before commencing.

Catering Assistant

We are looking for volunteers to help on various days and different times in our ‘Seasons Restaurant,’ at Clarence House. Duties include; food preparation, pot washing, clearing tables, and helping customers. Experience not needed, but good communication skills, and a friendly nature is required.
