Age UK Norfolk is supporting the introduction of a new Homeshare service in Norfolk, delivered by Two Generations, a social enterprise dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation through shared living arrangements.

Homeshare is a simple idea with a powerful impact

It matches people who have a spare room with someone seeking affordable accommodation and companionship, helping to create greater connection and support at home.
In return for a place to live, the Homesharer provides agreed support and companionship within the home. This is not a care service, but a practical arrangement that supports independence and wellbeing.

What is Homeshare?

Homeshare brings together two people who can benefit from living together:
• A Householder, typically an older person with a spare room who would benefit from companionship and occasional help at home
• A Homesharer, someone who is looking for affordable accommodation and is happy to offer time, presence, and light support in return
Each match is carefully considered based on lifestyle, preferences, and compatibility.
Typical support may include:
• Companionship and conversation
• Help with everyday tasks such as cooking or shopping
• Light household tasks or gardening
• Technology support
• Providing reassurance through an increased sense of security at home
Every arrangement is unique and agreed in advance between both parties.

How the service works

All Homeshare arrangements are professionally managed by Two Generations, who are responsible for:
• Screening and safeguarding checks
• Matching Householders and Homesharers
• Facilitating introductions and agreements
• Providing ongoing support throughout the arrangement
Age UK Norfolk supports the service by raising awareness about it and helping connect people who may benefit.

Safety and safeguarding

Safety is central to the Homeshare service delivered in partnership with Two Generations.
All Homesharers go through a detailed application and screening process, which includes:
• Enhanced DBS checks
• Verification of identity and right to live in the UK
• Proof of current address
• Confirmation of financial suitability for the programme
• Two written references
• In-depth interviews and assessment of suitability
Every match is carefully considered to ensure compatibility, safety, and shared expectations. Arrangements are managed and supported throughout, with regular check-ins to ensure the relationship is working well for both parties.

Benefits of Homeshare

Homeshare can help to:
• Reduce loneliness and isolation
