Dementia Resources

Published on 07 September 2018 12:31 PM

Age UK North Tyneside's Dementia Team recently welcomed Olivia, a student from Newcastle University, to spend some time with them to produce this short video for her media project.

Expert insights into communicating with people with dementia are provided by Kerry Parker, our Head of EveryDay Care & Support, and Dr Tony Young, Reader in Applied Linguistics and Communication at Newcastle University.

In the video Dr Young makes reference to DemTalk website which is a free, web-based toolkit to help improve communication with people with dementia.

It was produced in a project facilitated by the Alzheimer’s Society, by teams of stakeholders including communication researchers, technology designers, health and social care experts, carers and people living with dementia.

Different versions of the toolkit are tailored for the needs of different audiences, including family members, carers and medical professionals. It contains valuable resources for carers of people with dementia.

One of these resources is a free online course in Dementia care provided by FutureLearn.com. FutureLearn are a part of Newcastle University who are world class experts in Dementia.

You can view an introduction to the course in the following short video.
