Cuts for older people - completely unacceptable

Westminster at night

Age UK North Tyneside are supporting Age UK Campaigns to defend the triple lock and benefits for older people.

We're expecting the Chancellor to announce his plans for the economy a week from today and we can't feel sure that the triple lock is safe until we've seen the Chancellor's full plan.

If this affects you or a loved one, please will you email your MP and ask them to speak up for older people? MPs pay attention to personal stories. Your email doesn't need to be long – a couple of sentences can make a huge impact.

Even if this doesn't affect you, we need as many people to speak up as possible. Please will you tweet your MP to help us show the level of public outrage?

There has also been no commitment on benefits. If the Government doesn't raise benefits and pensions in line with inflation next spring it would effectively be a cut to many older people’s incomes during this cost of living crisis, which is completely unacceptable.

MPs must push the Chancellor and a new Prime Minister to keep the Government's promise on the triple lock and benefits.

The Government will be making decisions now, so we need to act fast. Let's make sure they have no room for manoeuvre on the triple lock.

This will be really worrying for some of you. If you have any questions at all about your own circumstances, please don’t hesitate to call us on 0191 280 8484 or get in touch online.
