PrEP - HIV Prevention

Published on 04 January 2023 12:23 PM

We're supporting Northumbria Healthcare's new campaign to raise awareness of PrEP - a medication available to help prevent the spread of HIV through sex.

If you are sexually active and over 16, living in North Tyneside or Northumberland, the sexual health team are asking you to get in touch for a chat to see if you’re eligible.

There’s nothing to be embarrassed about, the team are friendly, here to help and encourage you to talk openly so they can help you look after your sexual health.

PrEP is free, confidential, effective and only available in the community through the sexual health team. While it protects you from HIV, it’s important to continue using protection and to test regularly for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

For more information on PrEP visit www.northumbria.nhs.uk/prep

If you’re worried about anything to do with your sexual health or would like to discuss something in more detail, please don’t hesitate to contact the sexual health team, you can find the details here.

For additional help and support in North Tyneside, the Age UK North Tyneside team are here for you Monday to Friday, 8.45am to 4.30pm. Call us on 0191 280 8484 or get in touch online.
