Age UK Solihull is an independent, local charity and a Brand Partner of the national Age UK. We exist to be here for older people when they need our help and support. We are also the lead partner for the Solihull Community Advice Hubs, providing information, advice and support to all adult residents of Solihull.

Over 50 staff and 300 volunteers support our work.

HR Adviser (fixed term for 12 months)

Are you an experienced  HR professional, looking to work in a small organisation where you can really make a difference? Then join us as a part time HR Adviser. 

This is a new and exciting opportunity where you will provide essential advice, support and guidance to staff and our management team. We employ around 50 staff, and also have a fantastic team of over 300 volunteers, supporting older and vulnerable residents of Solihull to live well and independently. Our people are our biggest asset.

This is a multi-faceted and varied role which includes leading on recruitment, wellbeing, EDI, and Learning & Development.

You will be required to work from Age UK Solihull bases in central Solihull.

Main duties include:

1. To lead on recruitment and selection, advising on the most effective, innovative and cost efficient ways of attracting talent to the organisation, including being a member of the interview panel where appropriate. Managing the full recruitment process and employment checks.

2. To lead on staff wellbeing, including sickness absence management support, including pay elements and calculations. Proactively manage trigger points and support managers to ensure that the policy is implemented fairly and consistently, using Occupational Health where appropriate.

3. Undertake staff wellbeing surveys, health questionnaires, advising managers in the development of any individual employee support plans.

4. To monitor, track and action the contract status of employees, ensuring all employee records are up to date.

5. To provide support during disciplinary, capability, and grievance procedures. Including informal conflict resolution and mediation.

6. To provide support and coordinate redundancy consultation processes and TUPE processes.

7. To be the HR representative in relevant meetings and interview processes as required.

8. To maintain and develop an on-going working knowledge of employment law and HR best practice, ensuring this is used when advising managers, in conjunction with any outsourced HR support.

9. To provide confidential advice, guidance and support to staff and managers on the full range of HR topics, including absence, maternity, paternity, and flexible working, in conjunction with any outsourced HR support.

10. Monitor, review and update all HR policies, and Employee Handbook, and ensure these are in line with current legislation.

11. Oversee the L&D of the organisation, working with managers to undertake training needs analysis, develop a robust training plan and ensure compliance is met.

12. Provide HR management information and reports as required.

13. To lead on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, developing an action plan with managers to embed these values, principles and practices within Services, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and supporting the development of an inclusive culture.

14. Develop and maintain good working relationships and networks with relevant organisations and key individuals.

15. Contribute to decisions on organisational policy and strategic direction of the Charity, considering the needs or future needs of the Charity.

16. Work as part of the staff team at Age UK Solihull, undertaking by agreement any other reasonable work as may from time to time be required.

All staff have a particular responsibility for ensuring that Safeguarding Adults legislation and guidelines are adhered to, that the well-being of at risk individuals is promoted, and that at risk individuals are aware of their right to protection from all forms of abuse.

Experience and skills required:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience of providing advice and support on HR matters
  • CIPD qualification level 5 preferred
  • An understanding of equality and diversity and how to apply this in practice
  • Strong organisational, communication , listening and interpersonal skills
  • Diplomatic and understanding the need for strict confidentiality
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and flexibly
  • Ability to self-manage and work autonomously
  • Excellent team player
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective and productive working relationships
  • Good IT skills and experience of working with databases
