Our History

Our registered charity number - 1055887

The formal constitution of Age Concern Metropolitan Borough of Solihull was formally adopted at a public meeting in March 1983. This was largely due to the efforts of Councillor Miriam Harris in the Borough and Shirley Hutton who, as a resident in Castle Bromwich, had already set up a branch of Age Concern. The provision of direct services and campaigning to promote positive attitudes towards older people and ageing were the aims of the first committee and remain our aims today. Over the years, the Charity has been established as the only voluntary organisation working solely for and with older people in the Borough.

The charity became a company limited by guarantee in 1996 and is now known as Age UK Solihull.
