Current Volunteering Opportunities

Why volunteer?

Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet new people, develop your skills and make a meaningful difference in the community. Whether you’re retired, looking for something new, wanting to give back, or at the start of your career and keen to gain experience supporting older people, volunteering with us can be both rewarding and enjoyable. Everyone brings something valuable, and we welcome people from all backgrounds.

How much time will it take?

The time commitment varies depending on the role. Some roles offer flexibility, allowing you to agree a schedule that works for both you and the client. Others require a regular commitment at set times, usually no more than four hours a week. We also offer occasional one‑off opportunities if you’re unable to commit long‑term. We aim to provide roles that suit a wide range of availability.

Will I be properly supported?

Absolutely. You’ll be joining a large and growing team of volunteers who support older people across the borough. In return for your time and commitment, you’ll receive high‑quality support from staff, access to training, and opportunities to meet other volunteers and share feedback. We want you to feel confident, valued and part of the team.

What training will I receive?

All volunteers begin with an induction, where you’ll receive essential information on confidentiality, communication and best practice. We’ll also guide you through practical details such as travel expenses and ID badges.

Depending on the service you join, you may have additional training or shadow visits with an experienced volunteer to help you settle into the role. You’ll also receive a Volunteers Handbook, which outlines the policies and procedures that help us deliver safe, professional and effective services
