Workshops at Age UK Wirral

Dementia does not discriminateAge UK Wirral run 2 workshops for people who have had a recent diagnosis of Dementia and would like to maintain their memory skills for longer.

These workshops are designed around the scientifically researched Maintenance Stimulation Cognitive Therapy Sessions  (MCST)  which have been proven to help people with mild to moderate dementia keep their current skills for longer, therefore prolonging their independence and wellbeing.

Dementia is a general term used for a disease that cause changes to the brain and the way it works. Memory loss is one of the more common symptoms, but other symptoms can be the loss of spatial awareness or the ability to make decisions. There are many types of Dementia (including Alzheimer’s) and they all affect an individual in a different way.

Getting a diagnosis of Dementia can be a frightening thing for everyone in that person’s life. There is little support available for people straight after a diagnosis, and usually the person is not quite ready for day care centres when they first receive a diagnosis. These MCST groups are designed to support people who are still very independent and want to try new ways to retain their memory for longer.

The group costs £6 per session or £124 for the full 24 sessions if paid in advance.
