We have an immediate need for volunteers in a number of areas.
We are in urgent need of volunteer drivers to transport clients to and from our day clubs in York. Hours are approximately 8.45am to 10.30am and 2pm to 3.30pm. We require:
- Mini bus drivers: MIDAS trained or training will be provided.

- Drivers for wheelchair adapted car.
We are looking for reliable drivers with a friendly manner. All volunteers are required to complete an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service check) and provide references.
Escorted Shopping Drivers
Due to expansion of our shopping services, we have vacancies for volunteer drivers to escort people to do their shopping. This may be to the bank, local supermarket etc.
You will need to be friendly, flexible and have an understanding of older people and their needs. You must have a full driving licence and access to a car when volunteering. Full training will be provided. Mileage at 41p per mile will be paid. An enhanced DBS will be required.
Internet Shopping Volunteers
Due to the expansion of our shopping services, we are looking for two shopping volunteers and one volunteer to help with general administration.
Shopping volunteers ring service users on a Monday morning, take their orders and enter them onto the supermarket of the service user’s choice. They also email shopping requirements to personal shoppers. Shopping volunteers will need to be IT literate and preferably have an understanding of internet shopping. Accuracy is essential for this role, along with a friendly and chatty approach. An enhanced DBS will be required. Full training will be provided.
The general administration volunteer will be required on a regular basis for approximately half a day per week, to support the Home Shopping Organiser. The volunteer will need to ensure the accuracy of records and ensure that all spreadsheets are kept up to date. You may also be asked to take bookings for our escorted shopping service and look at the availability of drivers. A good understanding of IT systems is essential, as the shopping is a computer based system. Some data entry may also be required. An enhanced DBS will be required. Full training will be provided.
Would you be interested in volunteering for half a day at our Walmgate Office? We are looking to train a number of receptionists to cover absences. Receptionists meet and greet visitors to the Age UK offices, transfer telephone calls, take messages and undertake basic administration tasks. This is an essential role for Age UK York and full training will be given. If you would like to be considered for this interesting role, please contact us.
Our shops in Walmgate, Bishopthorpe Road and Burtonstone Lane are looking for shop floor volunteers. Tasks are varied and include greeting customers, advising and helping with sizes, operating tills (training provided), putting out stock, reducing stock and displays. If you are welcoming and friendly and can spare anything from a couple of hours to half a day a week, please contact us.
Day Club Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers to work in our day clubs which run every weekday in different venues throughout the city.
