Supporting Unpaid Carers in Bromley: You Are Not Alone
Published on 12 May 2025 09:02 AM
Every day, across Bromley, people quietly care for family members, friends, or neighbours who rely on them due to illness, disability, or mental health needs. You may not think of yourself as a “carer” but if you're regularly supporting someone in this way, that’s exactly what you are.
And you’re not alone.
At Age UK Bromley & Greenwich, we deliver the Adult Carers Support Service as part of Bromley Well, offering practical, emotional, and peer support to unpaid adult carers. Whether you’re new to caring or have been doing it for years, our service is here to help you feel recognised, supported, and less isolated.
What We Offer:
-
Emotional and practical support – someone to talk to and practical tools to help manage day-to-day challenges.
-
Peer Support Groups – regular meetups across Bromley, Beckenham, and Hayes, where carers can connect over a coffee, enjoy creativity sessions, and hear from guest speakers.
-
Help with GP carer registration – ensuring you’re recognised and supported within the healthcare system.
-
Signposting – to the right local services and resources based on your needs.
One carer recently shared:
“My first meeting at Azelia Hall today – what a lovely little group! It makes your day so much better when you can laugh and chat.”
Another added:
“Enjoyed the talk from the police it was very relevant to me. Surprised how many people have been affected by rogue traders. Thank you for organising!”
Why It Matters:
Caring can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be exhausting and lonely. Many carers put their own needs last and don’t realise support is available. Recognising yourself as a carer is the first step towards getting the help you deserve.
Our peer groups are informal, welcoming spaces to meet others who understand. Even a short break and a good chat can make a real difference to your mental wellbeing.
