Lickhill Shop Opening

Published on 26 November 2017 11:28 AM

Tuesday 14th November saw the official opening of our latest shop by the Mayor of Stourport, Councillor Higgs.

Sheelagh Keen, Chair of the Board of Trustees for Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch and Wyre Forest who supported the opening of the Lickhill Shop said:

"It is fantastic to be here in Lickhill opening our eighth shop and we thank Councillor Higgs and members of the community for their support today. Our shops are such a key part of what we do.  Not only do they provide a key source of funding, enabling us to provide support and services across North Worcestershire but we also recognise the valuable role that our shops play in our local communities. Our Lickhill shop is our first shop to officially join the ‘Safe Places’ scheme.  We are planning for all of our shops to become recognised ‘Safe Places’ over the coming months as we want people to feel that our shops and centres are warm, friendly and welcoming places, where they can come and feel safe, can talk to people and find out more about support and opportunities that might be available to them

In Worcestershire, the Safe Place scheme is being rolled out by Ourway Self Advocacy.  Caroline Jones from Ourway added:

"There are over 130 safe places in Worcestershire. The new Lickhill store is the first Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest shop to be registered as a safe place offering a place of safety should it be required. The Safe Place Scheme gives vulnerable people a short term "safe place" to go if they have a problem, feel threatened or are worried when out and about across town centres in Worcestershire. All shops, businesses and public buildings which are a safe place will have a "safe place" sticker displayed and staff members will be able to give reassurance and help people contact appropriate help and support"

To help you find your nearest "Safe Place" there is a free Safe Place Scheme App available for your mobile phone, download "My Town Worcestershire" from the App Store or you can go to Our Way Advocacy website .
