Coming together to take action for Dementia Action Week

Published on 10 May 2023 07:51 PM

Age UK BRWF's Bromsgrove Men In Sheds are looking forward to welcoming members of the Ormerod Rutter Chartered Accountants team to the Shed on Friday 12th May 2023 for a special community day to make Twiddle Boards to help support local people living with dementia.

Twiddle Boards (and other similar fiddle products, such as knittedTwiddle Muffs) have been shown to help promote focus and tactile experiences, which can be beneficial to a person living with dementia, helping to relieve tension and restlessness.

To help with ‘Twiddle Board Production’ on the 12th, the Bromsgrove Shedders have been appealing for donations of locks, latches, door chains, switches, zips/ any items that will help to create a sensory experience that can be attached to the Boards.

The Twiddle Boards made on the 12th will be given to members of the local community at an ‘Information & Coffee Morning’ being held at Amphlett Hall (Bromsgrove) on Friday 19th May 2023 for Dementia Action Week (the Alzheimer’s Society’s annual campaign to help raise awareness of dementia).

In addition to the Twiddle Boards, the event, which Age UK BRWF is co-hosting with VIP Day Centre (Bromsgrove) and Home Instead Redditch & Bromsgrove, will include:

  • Access to a range of information and advice
  • An informal talk at 11am by Zoe Mucklow (Home Instead) about dementia and supporting those living with the disease
  • Opportunities to just chat with others over a cup of tea/ coffee

Please note that car parking at Amphlett Hall is limited so it is requested that those that are able to use the nearby car parks at Asda and Waitrose on the 19th.
