Sharing Our Year Highlights

As Christmas draws nearer and we prepare for the festive season, it feels like the perfect moment to look back on an incredible year at Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Throughout 2025, our staff, volunteers, supporters and community partners have shown remarkable dedication helping us continue our mission of supporting older people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Here are just some of the highlights that have made 2025 so special:
Staff and Supporters Going the Extra Mile
- Our Service Manager, Sarah, took on the enormous challenge of the London Marathon, raising an impressive £1,066 to support our work.
- We also cheered on our colleague Jess, who ran the Great Eastern Run, raising £230.
- A special mention goes to Lucie, who began a 50k run challenge. Although she was unable to finish due to injury, her determination inspired others and our staff stepped in to complete the remaining miles as a team, turning her challenge into a shared success.
- Alchemab’s Garden Transformation! One of the standout moments of the year was the incredible garden makeover delivered by volunteers from Alchemab at Cherry Trees Day Centre. Their hard work transformed the outdoor space into a vibrant, welcoming garden for our service users to enjoy.

Community Fundraising and Donations
- We were delighted to receive a generous £400 donation when Team Leader Carol attended a trophy lunch at the Bretton Bowls Club.
- Our annual Big Knit campaign also made a fantastic impact, raising £1,100 to support local older people.
- In another uplifting moment, Cathy celebrated her 70th birthday in style by hosting a drag bingo fundraiser, raising both funds and smiles along the way.
- We also received outstanding support from the Alchemab Cogwheel Cambridge Stride team, who raised £1,875 through their efforts.
- Also Raul from Alchemab, completed a marathon in aid of Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, raising an amazing £650,
- As we step into the festive season, one of our most meaningful initiatives is our Christmas Giving Campaign. Once again, our staff are hand delivering gifts to service users who may otherwise receive few or no presents at Christmas.

Celebrations and Events Across Our Day Centres
- Our day centres were full of joy and activity throughout the year.
At Cherry Trees Day Centre, we celebrated Easter with an egg hunt, music and quiz
- In May, our Day Centres marked VE Day with special events hosted by Compare the Market, bringing music, nostalgia and companionship to those who attended.

Volunteer Appreciation
Our volunteers remain at the heart of everything we do. This year we held numerous volunteer coffee mornings, giving us the opportunity to say thank you, celebrate their contributions, and strengthen the sense of community that makes our organisation so special.

A New Chapter: Moving Office

Another milestone this year was our office move — a positive step that has helped us improve our working environment and continue supporting the local community.
As we reflect on these highlights, we feel incredibly grateful for every supporter, volunteer, partner and member of staff who has played a part in making this year a success. Together, we’ve raised vital funds and made a genuine difference to the lives of older people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
With Christmas just around the corner, we look forward to another year of community and positive impact.
