 Handyperson (zero hour) – Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland

About Us

Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland provides essential services that help older people live safely, independently and comfortably at home. We are seeking a reliable and compassionate Handyperson to join our team on a zero-hours basis, supporting clients with a range of home maintenance tasks that enhance wellbeing and quality of life.

About the Role

You will carry out a range of small repairs, maintenance tasks and safety installations in clients’ homes. Every job helps someone remain independent, comfortable and safe, so this is a role where your practical skills genuinely make a difference.

Main duties include:

  • Completing general home maintenance and small repair tasks to a high standard, including painting, decorating, and basic home improvements.
  • Install safety features such as handrails, grab bars, and key safes.
  • Providing estimates for work, including materials and time required
  • Provide friendly and respectful interactions with clients, addressing their specific needs.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Skilled in general home maintenance, repairs and basic improvements.
  • Comfortable working in a face-to-face, customer-focused environment.
  • Able to quote for jobs, complete simple paperwork and manage your own workload effectively.
  • Understanding of the needs of older people, with a respectful, patient and compassionate approach.
  • Physically able to carry out lifting, moving and practical tasks involved in the role.
  • Willing to follow organisational policies and undertake mandatory training.

Essential:
A UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.

A basic DBS check applies.

Hours and Pay

  • Contract: Zero hours
  • Hours: Flexible, as work becomes available
  • Salary: £13.57 per hour increasing to £14.10 per hour from 1 April 2026.
