My Recollections

Age UK North Tyneside have been successful in applying for a COVID 19 response grant from the Tesco Bags of Help Scheme. This has enabled us to team up with local artist Michelle Wood to provide members of 4 of our social groups with create-at-home art kits to take part in a reminiscence, locally inspired art project which we are calling My ReCollections.

My ReCollections:

Using their creative making-kits and online support, customers will be making their own concertina-fold book, which they can then use to collect reminiscences, images and thoughts about their local area. They can colour, draw, doodle, write or collect objects or photos to include in the book. Inspiration can be from homes, gardens or a favourite place outdoors like a park, riverside or beach.

The concertina book will represent each individual’s story and experience of living in the North East. What have they seen change around them? What do they see now?

There'll be online support, downloadable examples and even a chance to meet in some Zoom sessions. The kits and support are provided by Michelle of Sea Tern Print, who has previously worked with our Wallsend Men’s group on numerous projects. She has lots of experience in offering creative print activities, sessions and kits. Her approach is warm-hearted and sociable, making the activities accessible and enjoyable.

The aim of this project is to bring group members together through art and reminiscence, inspiring one another, sharing memories, creating and learning something new and increasing people’s confidence in using digital communication such as Zoom and Whatsapp.
