Town Common in the Beacon Shopping Centre, North Shields
Helix Arts will transform a patch of astroturf in The Beacon Shopping Centre, North Shields - a new ‘town common’ for the residents of North Shields and surrounding areas.
During February half term (17th - 22nd) a series of workshops with artists, performers and community groups will be available for people to drop in from the local community.
Over the week, an ambitious programme of arts, cultural and community activities takes place. Residents will collectively reimagine the role and function of public space in the town centre.
All workshops will be FREE and accessible for a range of different age groups and abilities.

Dance, music making, printmaking, singing, collage, textiles, creative writing and more!
A chance to share and chat over lunch time 12noon – 1pm.
Monday
Dance: 10.00 - 11.00 and 13.00 - 14.00
Come and join our Falling On Your Feet dancers - any age, any ability!
Printmaking: 14.00 - 15.00
Try out some techniques for printmaking - no previous experience required.
Tuesday
Map making: 10.00 - 11.00 and 14.00 - 15.00
Can we make a 3d map of North Shields? Which parts would you like to include?
Positive Pathways: 11.00 - 12.00 and 13.00 - 14.00
This social group normally meets at Meadow Well Connected, but today are opening it up to meet some new faces. Come along for a chat and some games - all welcome!
Wednesday
Collage: 10.00 - 11.00 and 14.00 - 15.00
Get creative with some images of North Shields, past and present.
Creative writing: 11.00 - 12.00 and 13.00 - 14.00
How would you describe the places where you live? Whether you’re a seasoned writer, or never tried it before, we’d love to hear what you have to say. All ages!
Thursday
Textiles: 11.00 - 12.00 and 13.00 - 14.00
Explore how paper and textiles can come together to create images of North Shields. No textiles experience necessary.
Friday
Music making: 11.00 - 12.00 and 13.00 - 14.00
Get ready to make some noise with Ladies of Midnight Blue and their incredible music making!
Saturday
Printmaking: 10.00 - 11.00
Try out some techniques for printmaking - no previous experience required.
Can’t Sing Choir: 11.00 - 12.00 and 13.00 - 14.00
Whether you want to just listen, or join in with some well known favourites, we believe this is for EVERYONE!
Zumba: 14.00
Banish the February cold with some lively zumba moves.
