Age Friendly Norwich
The places we live and the communities we share shape how we experience ageing and the opportunities it brings. By making Norwich an Age Friendly City, we can create an inclusive environment that supports people to age well, stay independent, and remain active members of society.
Age UK Norwich is committed to building an Age Friendly City, a place where people can age well, stay independent, and remain active in their community. By joining a global network of over 1,000 cities, we can tackle the challenges of an ageing population and create a city that works for all generations.
Key challenges we need to address include:
-
By 2040, 40% of Norfolk’s population will be of dependent age, with the 85+ population doubling
-
Residents in deprived areas of Norwich live nearly 10 years less than those in wealthier areas
-
23% of over-65s live in poverty
-
11% of Norfolk residents provide unpaid care, above the national average
-
Norwich is one of the loneliest cities in the UK, with 42% of residents living alone (up to 65% in some wards)
