Today, we were delighted to receive a signed shirt from Norwich City Football Club in recognition of our 80th year. Signed by the current first team, the #80 shirt was presented by Elliot King, Head of Supporter Engagement & Public Affairs, as a thank-you to the staff and volunteers at the charity.
For eight decades, Age UK Norwich has supported older people, championed their voices, and offered services that transform lives. Our 80th year is a celebration of what we’ve achieved, but also a reminder of the social issues that still impact our city, and why making Norwich and Age Friendly City is our mission.
Age UK Norwich runs “Still on the Ball”, a football reminiscence club at Carrow Road, growing connections and support through the love of football, with many members living with dementia. The club was formed in 2015, also celebrating a decade of fun, games and stories.
Kicking off the new season, together with The Canaries Trust and Norwich Door to Door, a new Accessible Matchday Bus Service has been launched to help supporters get to Carrow Road safely and easily. The service will be available all season. Read more here.
Dan Skipper, Chief Executive Officer said “We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the club for their generosity. We both have Norwich in our name and are recognised as part of the city landscape. Lots of the people we help are avid fans of the club, and we work hard so they keep that passion and connection going, whether that’s helping people with their mobility or mental health so they can attend matches, or with their finances to afford the tickets along with other bills. Passions and hobbies are so important for later life, and they don’t come much bigger than football.”
