We deliver hot meals to your table
Welcome to Age UK Portsmouth’s Meals on Wheels service. Age UK Portsmouth is a charity based in Portsmouth and we have supported thousands of vulnerable and isolated older people in the local area for over 80 years. Our mission is ‘to help adults in Portsmouth and South East Hampshire enjoy a better quality of life, with a specific focus on all aspects of getting older’.
The service we offer
Our hot meals service offers a variety of nutritionally-balanced, high-quality meals which conform to national catering standards. Our creative Catering Team prepare all hot meals and teatime packs in our kitchen at The Bradbury Centre in Fratton, Portsmouth.
Our team happily cater for clients with diabetes, food allergies, intolerances or any dietary requirements including preparing easy-to-swallow meals. Additionally, we offer a variety of cultural meal choices on request.
Our hot lunchtime and teatime menus move through a four-weekly cycle with meal selections coded to highlight vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose intolerance and healthy options. We try to make meal selection easy for you to choose the most suitable meals for your dietary needs.
What does the Meals on Wheels service cost?
Our hot lunch menu of main meal and dessert is £8.50 per day.
We also offer a teatime light-meal pack at a cost of £3.95 per day which includes your choice of sandwich or savoury pastry, a piece of fruit, an assorted yoghurt pot, a slice of cake and a bottle of water.
Ordering involves simply ticking off your meal and/or teatime selection on our purpose-designed order forms. Your meal choices will then repeat every four weeks until the next change of menu in six months’ time. If you wish to change any of your meal choices at any time you can contact us by telephone or email to update your choices.
At the end of each month you will receive an invoice which ideally can be paid by Direct Debit.
Our drivers carry out wellbeing checks
Meals are delivered 365 days a year by our friendly delivery drivers who all undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Meals are delivered ready to eat between 11.30am and 2pm every day. We cannot give an exact delivery time, but generally we will deliver meals at a similar time every day.
For your safety, we operate a ‘no reply’ procedure just in case you do not answer your door; we care about you and will ensure that you are alright before leaving the premises. Our drivers will also support you to drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated throughout the day, and they will monitor room temperatures to ensure you are comfortable in your home environment, particularly in extreme weather conditions.
