A new minibus for local older people’s charity

Age UK Salford has welcomed the arrival of a new minibus for the service users of the Humphrey Booth Day Centre in Eccles. The centre is for older people living independently in Salford and who may need additional support during the daytime.

The minibus has been purchased with the help of a generous grant from The Booth Charities.

In 2018, the Age UK Salford specially adapted minibus was sadly stolen and never recovered – this was a big loss for the charity and for a number of years an older vehicle was used but recently this had become unsustainable to maintain.

Ken Whittick, Chair of the Board of Trustees said “we are very grateful to The Booth Charities for this generous funding. The minibus will allow us to support the needs of the older people attending the centre. This is particularly important as we continue to see a high demand for assisted transport owing to the increasing fraility of those for whom the centre provides vital care.”

Dave Haynes, Chief Executive, Age UK Salford said: “many of the service users live alone, don’t have family living near by or aren’t able to travel independently. This is a great addition to our service to know we can offer dependable door-to-door transport for those who need it.”
