Last month marked an auspicious anniversary in the lives of two of the longest serving members of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin.
John Hughes and Susan Stefiuk have both served 20 years with the charity and friends and colleagues joined them to celebrate this remarkable milestone.
John and Susan joined Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin in the early days of the Help at Home service. John went on to become one of the service’s Senior Coordinators, arranging domestic help in the home for older people and in part being responsible for the amazing success story that Help at Home has become.
Susan took a different route and became our charity’s Living Well Coordinator, responsible for setting up a huge range of activities and groups for older people including Zumba Gold and Adult Ballet. In the past three months they have been working together to run our Winter Support Service. The number of older people who have benefitted from John and Susan’s efforts over 20 years is incalculable, but runs into many thousands.
John said: ‘Working with this team is like being part of a family and I can honestly say that I haven’t once felt like not coming to work in the 20 years I’ve been here.’ Susan agreed: ‘It really is like one big family and it’s been such a pleasure to work here.’
Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin would like to take this opportunity to thank John and Susan for their continued hard work and dedication in supporting older people in Telford and Shropshire. Both have made a huge difference to the lives of older people over those 20 years and we congratulate them for reaching this big milestone.
