Act now to keep telecare alarms working safely

By January 2027, the analogue technology that has connected homes and businesses throughout the country for decades will be shut down. The network is becoming more fragile, less reliable and harder to maintain. As a result, telephone communications providers are upgrading the old technology to modern digital services.
This transition will be seamless for most users, but vulnerable individuals who rely on telecare alarms will require special attention to help make sure alarms keep working through the switchover.
You may have already seen publicity about the switchover. A national information campaign by the UK Government, BT and Virgin Media is currently running across television, radio, newspaper, social media and online.
The national telecare campaign aims to protect vulnerable telecare users by:
- Making them aware of what’s happening and why.
- Keeping people safe as the network moves from analogue to digital landlines.
- Offering a common source of information for telecare users and their support network.
- Encouraging customers to act so that their telephone provider meets their individual needs.
If you or someone you know uses a telecare alarm they should:
- Call their landline provider now for support and to advise them they are a telecare user.
