To celebrate Carers Week our Still Caring group enjoyed a pub lunch in Shrewsbury followed by a relaxing walk by the River Severn.

Still Caring is a social group for people who are or have been until recently, caring for someone else. The group helps carers that have little or no social interaction apart from the relative they care for by introducing them to other carers. It also supports people who find returning to social occasions overwhelming following an extended period of caring for a family member.

“Our Still Caring group offers a warm welcome and the chance to share experiences with other carers without judgement,” said Emma Wilde, Wellbeing Services Manager at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin. “If you’re a carer we can introduce you to others that understand your situation and help build your confidence about returning to social interaction and meeting new people.”

The group is funded and supported by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, Shropshire Carers Support Team and Shropshire County Council.

Carers Week (9 – 15 June) is a national initiative that highlights the challenges faced by unpaid carers and recognises the contribution they make to their families. During the week, individuals, groups and organisations run activities throughout the UK to support carers and give them a boost. Carers in Shropshire have visited local museums and National Trust properties, experienced craft activities, relaxation sessions, coffee mornings and a picnic in Telford Town Park.
