Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin was delighted to celebrate the incredible dedication of its volunteers at the charity’s annual Christmas lunch, held this year at The Telford Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort.
The festive gathering brought together more than 140 volunteers from across the county, each of whom play a vital role in supporting local older people. From running day centres and offering a friendly voice as telephone befrienders, to helping individuals navigate complex benefits forms, volunteers were warmly thanked for the compassion, time and commitment they give throughout the year.
Guests enjoyed a delicious two-course Christmas lunch, followed by light-hearted general knowledge and festive-themed quizzes, creating an afternoon filled with celebration, laughter, and well-deserved appreciation. DJ Kevin from Centre Stage Entertainment, who has recently started to volunteer for the charity, provided a soundtrack of popular Christmas hits that added a lively touch to the event.

The event also provided an opportunity for the charity’s leadership team to reflect on the significant impact volunteers have on the lives of older people across Shropshire. Chief Executive Heather Osborne said: “Our volunteers truly are the heart of everything we do. Their kindness, dedication and generosity of spirit make a life-changing difference to older people in our communities. This lunch is a small way for us to say a huge thank you for everything they do.”
Heather also thanked The Telford Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort for hosting the event and for their continued support as a corporate partner.
