Caroline Moss completed her first ever marathon to help older people in Shropshire and Telford & WrekinCaroline Moss completed the world famous London Marathon and raised over £1200 to support older people in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

Caroline Moss, from Market Drayton, is a Care Navigator for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin and completed the 26.2 miles last Sunday in just under six hours.

Caroline has been training hard since Christmas for her first ever marathon, clocking up many miles on practice runs. ‘I thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt okay until mile 21 and then had pain in my right leg so I kept having to stop to stretch it out. Then it completely seized up so I was almost running on one leg,' she said.

‘When I crossed the finish line both my legs went; I was literally cemented to the ground. I got off fairly lightly with a bit of sunburn and two big blisters and I could walk again the next morning!’

Caroline taking a drink during the raceCaroline has been working for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin for eight years and she sees first-hand what we do to improve the quality of life for older people in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. Based in various GP surgeries in the county, her role as a Care Navigator, involves supporting older people in the community and signposting them to services which can help them to remain independent and healthy.

Ruth Brown, Head of Fundraising for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, said, ‘We are all so proud of Caroline and her fantastic achievement. This was not an easy task and she has done so well to get to the finishing line, it’s really inspiring. It would be wonderful to help Caroline reach £1500 in sponsorship so I would urge everyone to donate if you can.’
