Donate your final fiver before it becomes worthless and help support older people in Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
On 5 May 2017, old paper £5 notes will cease to be legal tender, which means you will no longer be able to use them to pay for anything.
We are appealing to people to donate their final paper fiver to Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin before they go out of circulation. We will then use the donations to reach the rising number of local older people who need support in the county.
Ruth Brown, Head of Fundraising, said: ‘When the new £5 notes came into circulation in September last year it sparked a social media campaign asking people to consider donating their 'first fiver' towards charity.
Now that the old £5 notes are being withdrawn, we’re asking people to donate your ‘final fiver’ to Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, to help support our vital services for local older people such as our Dementia Drop Ins, Day Centres, our free and impartial information and advice service, Befrienders and Telephone Buddies.
We could do so much with something that is about to become a worthless bit of paper!’
Anyone who would like to make a donation can drop it into one of the Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin furniture shops or one of our offices before 5 May.
Donors can also help to persuade others to donate their ‘final fiver’ by taking a picture of their last note and putting it on social media with the hashtag #FinalFiver.
