Newport Ukes popped in to our Frizes Leasowe dementia support group last month to entertain the members with rousing versions of popular songs.
It was the first visit to one of our Diamond Drop In Centres for Newport Ukes, a four-piece ukulele band from Newport. They played songs familiar to the support group’s members, so everyone was able to join in and the finale of Tom Jones’ ‘Delilah’ was particularly enthusiastic.
‘There is a special magic attached to being able to sing together, it makes everyone feel good and enhances feelings of wellbeing,’ said Neil Brookes, Senior Co-ordinator (Dementia Services) for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin. ‘We have invited them to come back soon.’
Our Diamond Drop In Centre at Frizes Leasowe is a fortnightly dementia support group for both the person living with dementia and their carer. It provides a friendly environment for people to get to know others and share experiences in a relaxed atmosphere and also to have some fun.
In Telford & Wrekin we also have groups in Dawley, Wellington and Donnington and in Shropshire we have groups in Copthorne, Monkmoor, Oswestry, Pontesbury and Shifnal.
