Jean from Market Drayton knitted some amazing hats for Age UK and innocent’s Big Knit campaign during a recent stay in hospital.
Knitting the hats for the campaign proved a real life line to Jean while she was battling with ill health. ‘They are a laugh a minute, a sheer joy to do and best of all it will hopefully help someone else,’ she said.
Jean learned how to crochet as a young girl in an air raid shelter to take her mind of what was happening and hasn't looked back since.
'Jean is so creative with the hats and goes above and beyond any knitting pattern,' said Angela Jebb, Senior Coordinator for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin (right), pictured above with Jean (centre) and Chrissie Jupp, Community & Care Coordinator for Drayton Medical Practice (left).
The Big Knit is a joint campaign between Age UK and innocent drinks to help vulnerable older people keep warm in the winter. Knitters of all ages and abilities can get involved in this exciting campaign to make lots of tiny hats for the top of innocent smoothie bottles. For every be-hatted bottle sold, 25p will go straight to Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin. This will allow us to provide Surviving Winter grants to local older people who can’t afford to keep warm during the winter.
