Dancing, friendship and community spirit

An afternoon of dancing, friendship and community spirit at The Westway!

On Saturday, 27th September, Age UK Surrey hosted its successful Tea and Dance Event at the Westway Community Centre in Caterham to celebrate older people and our community coming together.  Over 80 people gathered at the Westway community centre to learn Ballroom and Latin dance routines and enjoyed an afternoon tea with friends.

The event saw many give dancing a go for the first time. From line dancing to the Waltz, even those with mobility issues were enticed to the dance floor and the room's lively energy.  New friendships were formed as members of the community came out on their own or to the community centre for the first time.

A total of £1,073 was raised on the day in support of Age UK Surrey and its services and activities, which focus on events like these that foster social connection and community spirit. A special thank you to Janet and her team of volunteers at Westway Community Centre for making the event so heartfelt and special.  And to the very talented Paul and Suzanne for teaching their spectacular dance routines on the day.

Age UK Surrey would also like to thank its sponsor, Taylor Wimpey, for supporting this event, as well as Tesco, Waitrose, and Morrisons in Caterham for donating raffle prizes.

We are grateful to everyone who came out to support this wonderful community event! Keep dancing!
