Our Christmas Carol Service

Published on 19 December 2025 10:24 AM

Age UK Surrey's annual Christmas Carol Service at Guildford Cathedral on Thursday 18 December, was truly a memorable occasion.

"The Carol Service gets better and better", that was a comment from many. Hundreds of people attended, including Mayors from across the county, and enjoyed outstanding performances from the Guildford Cathedral Singers, Rock Choir conducted by Tom George, Tormead Prep School Choir and organist Jozef Gaszka. The choirs lifted the roof, and it was a very special morning.

We extend special thanks to the HM Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey - Michael More-Molyneux, Mayor of Guildford Cllr - Howard Smith, Mayor Waverley - Cllr Penny Rivers,  Chairman of the Council of Mole Valley District - Cllr Roger Adams, Mayor Of Woking Cllr - Amanda Booth, Mayor of the Borough of Reigate & Banstead - Cllr Rich Michalowski and his wife Michelle for attending the carol service.

Our thanks also go to Catherine Hodgson, CEO of Age UK Surrey; the Hon. Lavinia Sealy DL, President of Age UK Surrey; and Richard Mills, Acting Chair of the Board of Trustees, for supporting the event.

As always, with a big event like this, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the support of our amazing volunteers. Our thanks once again to volunteers from the SCC North West Social Care Team, Opus Tech, Surrey Masons (who assisted with car park direction), and the staff of Age UK Surrey, who ensured the event ran smoothly.

We are also grateful to our sponsors, Headline Design & Print, who once again printed the Order of Service. Morrisons in Aldershot kindly donated mince pies and napkins, while Taylor Wimpey generously sponsored costs, including St John’s Ambulance first aiders, refreshments, cathedral fees (including the organist), and the suspension of car parking charges. Their support helped ensure the event remained free of charge.

Our sincere thanks go to the Very Revered Bob Cooper, Dean of Guildford, and to everyone at Guildford Cathedral - a truly magnificent setting for our annual Carol Service.

Finally, we would like to thank everyone who attended and supported us throughout the year. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2026. 🎄✨
