Supporting your home team, when you're in York and when you are away.
As Age UK York we are delighted to come together with York City Football Club Foundation (YCFCF) to highlight the community support and advice available to older people across York from local charities.
" We simply want our fans and their families to know that we are here for those they care about, no matter what they are facing ”
Amidst one of the coldest January's on record we are sadly all too aware that the darker nights and cold weather can make it harder for people to get out and about, leaving them feeling lonely or out of sorts. This comes after the festive period when many families come together though then have to return to their homes across the country, yet worry about their friends and family here in York.
Joan, a long time York City fan and member of York City Foundation’s Sporting Memories group kindly shared her experience...
"It's always special to be with friends and family at Christmas, nobody wants to be on their own. The football family at YCFCF helps to combat that loneliness when your family have returned to their own homes.
As parents all we ask is stay in touch, a regular phone call, text or WhatsApp message means the world".
With a wide range of activities, advice and support available, including Sporting Memories and Day Clubs for a chat and a cuppa, advice on benefits and welfare checks, and even taking your dog for a walk if you are struggling to get out and about, together York City Football Club Foundation and Age UK York want to raise awareness of the services available and how to find out more about them, for yourself or loved ones.
