The Big Knit 2026-27
As autumn arrives and the nights draw in, it's the perfect time to get cosy with a knitting or crochet project that makes a difference.
The Age UK Bradford District Big Knit is back! We're asking individuals, groups and organisations across Bradford District to help us collect 6,500 little hats.
Every hat raises 30p for Age UK Bradford District, helping us support older people across our community.
How can you get involved?
You don't need to be an expert knitter to take part. Every hat counts, whether it's your first attempt or one of hundreds you've made.
- Knit or crochet at home: Make a few hats while relaxing in the evening.
- Get friends together: Turn a cosy afternoon or evening into a fun knitting session.
- Involve your group: Knitting clubs, community groups, care homes, schools and workplaces can all take part.
- Spread the word: Encourage others to get involved and help us reach our target.

With over 40 patterns available, there’s plenty of inspiration to choose from, including both knitting and crochet designs. From beginner-friendly projects to more intricate patterns for experienced crafters, you can find a style and challenge to suit you.

How to send us your hats
Once your little hats are ready, getting them to us is easy. You can drop them off at any of our six Age UK Bradford District community hubs or send them to us by post.
Drop off in person
Bring your finished hats to any of our six community hubs across Bradford District. It’s a great opportunity to visit your local hub while supporting older people in your community.
