Melody's Work Experience

During my time at Age UK Bristol I have really enjoyed meeting the team who has helped me learn about how the charity works and runs. Everyone immediately made me feel warm and welcome, and the team were helpful in giving me information about the charity and answering any questions I had.

Attending the FAB café in Horfield was good fun, and enabled me to meet new people and hear their stories. The ladies I met really enjoyed the Tai Chi class, and they said they’ve become good friends since going to these sessions.  I loved visiting the Withywood centre, also ran by FAB, where I helped and got involved in puppet making and meeting the local community. Learning about the healthy together clinic, also held at the Withywood centre, was interesting in learning how FAB treats people with lower leg injuries

Working on reception gave me an insight on how inquiries are managed and what to do to help and direct the client with their needs. Being able to help someone with an issue gave me a sense of satisfaction as I enjoyed helping the person with what they needed, and liked learning how to steer the client in the right direction to help.

Spending time with the team made me realise just how much work Age UK Bristol, FAB and BAB do for the community to help older people have regular meet ups and fun. I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to get an insight and deep understanding of what Age UK Bristol, FAB and BAB does to help the residents of Bristol ensure they can love later life.
