Our services

Age UK Bristol offers services for people aged 55 and over living in Bristol.

Our services

  • Information and Advice

Our Information & Advice service is available for people over 55 who live or work in Bristol. We also offer advice to family members who are supporting older relatives who are over 55 and live in Bristol.

The service is provided by a small staff team and a team of trained volunteers. We can offer advice and information on a wide range of issues.

  • New Beginnings Day Centre

We offer a regular programme of activities that include exercise, dance, arts and crafts, singing, baking, walking, gardening, visits from local school children and outside entertainment. We regularly have 12 - 20 people attend per day, which creates an exciting friendly atmosphere, and a two course hot meal freshly prepared daily in the onsite café.

  • Friends Ageing Better

Friends Ageing Better (FAB) is a friendly, welcoming social community for people aged 50 and over in Bristol. FAB is all about connection - meeting new people, having a good chat, and feeling part of something local and lively.

  • Preventing Falls

Falls are the leading cause of injury-related hospitalisations in older people, yet many are preventable. As many as 1 in 3 over 65s fall at least once a year in the UK. There are many reasons why we are at higher risk of falls as we get older, including weakening muscles, stiff joints, pain or needing to take multiple medications. The good news is we can do something about most of these problems.

Working in partnership

  • Celebrating Age Festival

The Celebrating Age Festival, whilst focusing on those over 50, always offers something for everyone and is a fantastic opportunity to try a new craft, make new friends and share experiences.

  • Bristol Research Forum on Ageing

The research forum was set up to communicate the results of relevant policy research to planners, managers, service providers and users in the Bristol area.

  • Bristol Support Hub for Older People

The Support Hub is made up of over 40 local charities and organisations across Bristol and was formed in response to the pandemic. The hub provides a range of different support for older people via our helpline, including practical support, emotional support and social support.

  • Ageing Well Pilots

The Ageing Well programme aims to improve the quality of life of older people, so that everyone in Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) can stay well as they get older.

Age UK Bristol is leading on two of these pilots, Active Lives and Connecting Communities.
