General Election 2019

Published on 27 November 2019 03:11 PM

We are supporting our national partner Age UK, in their election campaign which reflects the very real challenges facing many older people today.

We are calling on all political parties to bring forward policies which make life better for older people; particularly those vulnerable older people who need us most.

We support the manifesto, produced by Age UK, which sums up what Age UK wants from the next Government. It calls for policy changes in a range of areas relating to later life such as ending pensioner poverty, the importance of secure, warm and decent housing, and the need for a high quality and responsive health service.

Our particular focus at the General Election is:

1. Fixing our broken social care system

2. Saving the free TV licence for all over 75's

Earlier this year, the Age UK network of partners handed in a petition signed by over 634,000 people calling on the Government to take back responsibility for funding free TV licences. We wish to ensure that whoever is elected will commit to a reversal of the decison to limit eligibility for free TV licences.

Our Care in Crisis campaign, highlighting the need for reform of social care, has been running for many years and despie the promise of a green paper on social care over two years ago we are still waiting for action from government. A serious committment to address the social care crisis is something we want to see from all parties in this General Election.
