We always welcome ideas and initiatives from companies and their employees and are happy to discuss these with you and will support these ventures where it is practicable to do so and meets our service users’ needs and charity objectives.

Fundraising

We are always grateful for any offers to raise funds for us as we rely heavily on fundraising to enable us to offer many of our services.

Big Knit

Encourage your employees to join in The Big Knit. The Big Knit is a nationwide campaign that Age UK runs in partnership with innocent drinks where we ask you to knit little woolly hats which then go on to their smoothie drinks. For every smoothie sold, Age UK receives 25p. There are over 130 local Age UK's brand partners, of which Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is one, and all the partners may take part if they wish. In the past we have managed to contribute thousands of little hats to this campaign. The participation has delighted many and also raised much needed funds for us. In the 2020/22 Big Knit campaign Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough collected 15,085 little hats, which raised an incredible £3,771.25 for us to help support local older people.

Volunteering

This is a way your staff can volunteer in their own time or individually during work hours.

Send employees to volunteer

Could you send a team to help out at an event or activity? It's a great way for staff to bond by working together to help vulnerable older people. Previous staff teams have served Christmas lunches, taken older people on days out, painted our day centre, and revamped our garden.

Telephone Befriending Volunteering

You may have staff who would like to support an isolated older person on a one-to-one basis. Our Telephone Befrienders are matched with an older person and call them once a week for a chat for about 20 minutes. These calls take place at a time convenient to the volunteer and older person, so can take place during work hours or in the evenings and weekends.

Could you allow your staff 20 minutes out of the working day to make someone’s day? Alternatively, could you promote this to your staff via your internal email and communicationsTelephone Befrienders are DBS checked and fully trained and supported throughout their volunteering.

Christmas Giving

Share our annual Wish List of gifts to purchase and donate, so that our staff can pass on a Christmas gift to our service users who will not receive anything, or very little, at this poignant time of the year when many older people find themselves feeling lonely. Some representative employees could come and visit one of our centres with some of the gifts.

You can collect donations from staff and arrange with us to drop off the gifts at our office. We also publish a Amazon Wishlist every year where your employees can purchase and gift and it gets sent straight to us. For access to the Wishlist contact us media@ageukcap.org.uk

Monthly Giving

Could any of your team make a monthly donation to us out of their salary? Or maybe set up a monthly Donr Text Giving to us. If everyone donated the cost of one coffee a month (e.g. £3.00) it would soon add up. Regular giving helps us to provide our vital information and advice services to older people.
