Age UK Cheshire Backed by Local Siblings in Athletic Fundraisers for Dementia Service

Siblings George and Sophie Smith are embodying community spirit by taking on individual athletic challenges to support Age UK Cheshire's specialised dementia service, Bright Memories. George will test his mettle in the UWCB Warrington boxing ring on November 18th, while Sophie is set to run the Delamere Forest Half Marathon on November 5th.

Age UK Cheshire, a local organisation dedicated to supporting older people, their families, and carers, aims to combat poverty, relieve social isolation, and increase independence. While an independent local registered charity, Age UK Cheshire aims to create a future where every older person in Cheshire can live their best life.

Bright Memories is one such initiative by Age UK Cheshire. It is a day activity service crafted for those living with early-stage dementia. The service offers various activities that stimulate the mind, body, and social skills. Activities range from arts and crafts to quizzes and music, all provided in a nurturing and caring environment, complete with a hot two-course meal and refreshments.

George has already raised 26% of his £500 target and is motivated by the personal impact of dementia on his Grandad, a regular attendee at Bright Memories. "It takes away the very essence of a person," he said, urging the community to support his fundraising endeavour.

Likewise, Sophie, having reached 65% of her £200 goal, highlighted the "invaluable" local support Age UK Cheshire provides. "By running the Delamere Half Marathon, I'm indirectly supporting my Grandparents as well as others like them in my local area," she added.

Dale Maskell, CEO of Age UK Cheshire, expressed gratitude and admiration for George and Sophie's initiatives: "These efforts are not merely financial contributions; they also serve to raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals and families living with early-stage dementia."

As they lace up their running shoes and put on their boxing gloves, the Smith siblings are setting a sterling example of how individual actions can collectively make a significant impact on the welfare of older people in Cheshire.

Donations to support George and Sophie in their fundraising efforts are welcomed. Contributions will significantly aid families like the Smiths, who are benefiting from Age UK Cheshire's essential services, including Bright Memories.
