What is the required background to become a Trustee?

We welcome Trustees from diverse backgrounds and with a variety of experience. Everyone has a skill set that can have a positive impact and offer a new perspective. Your passion and commitment to our charity are what truly matter.

What happens if I am unable to attend a meeting?

It’s not the end of the world! However, we do expect you to let us know if you are not able to be at a meeting. All Trustees should try to attend as many meetings as possible, but we do understand everyone has commitments.

Is there flexibility in how I can fulfil my Trustee responsibilities?

Yes, for instance it is possible to attend meetings via video call if you are unable to get to our location for a meeting. Additionally, our calendar of meetings is published annually so you will have plenty of notice of meeting dates.

Will I receive any training to help me in my role as a Trustee?

Yes, as a Trustee, you will have access to training and support to help you understand your role and make informed decisions. We want you to enjoy the experience just as much as you do!

How much time am I expected to dedicate as a Trustee?

The time commitment varies but typically involves attending quarterly meetings, participating in periodic discussions, and contributing your expertise as and when needed. Some Trustees are more involved than others – it’s down to personal choice and availability but all of this will be discussed with you when we meet to tell you more about the role.

What is it like to attend a board meeting as a Trustee?

Attending a board meeting as a Trustee involves engaging in strategic discussions, decision-making, and collaborating with fellow Trustee’s to drive the charity’s missions forward.

Can I become a Trustee if I have other commitments, such as work or childcare?

Absolutely! Having other commitments, such as work, or childcare is not a problem. We are very flexible and Age UK IW will work with you to accommodate your various commitments as best we can.
