Meet Daphne Self, the world’s oldest supermodel and new face of Eyeko

Published on 26 January 2018 11:07 AM

You might think that it’s too late for you to fulfil your ambitions of being a supermodel. After all, don’t most models stop working in their late 20s (if that)? That might be the case for many – but not for one octogenarian who’s just been made the face of a new beauty campaign. Daphne Self has just landed a major beauty campaign with makeup brand Eyeko, and at 89, she might just be the world’s oldest supermodel.

She says that she started modelling in her 20s, during in the 50s, and got rediscovered at 70 when she was asked to do a shoot for Vogue who were doing a feature on ageing. In a film produced by Eyeko – who specialise in eye makeup – Daphne is seen tending to her own ‘quite long and rather sparse’ eyelashes.

‘I like my eyelashes to look long and thick.’ She’s just one of a number of models to be featured in Eyeko’s Bespoke Mascara campaign, which is seeking to show that ‘no one size fits all’. The new bespoke product is supposed to give beauty lovers more options over what they want their lashes to look like.

To find your perfect mascara, all you have to do is describe your lashes, choose which effect you want and then choose the relevant mascara wand. And for Daphne, that’s thick and long. Oh, to be half as fabulous in the future…
