Volunteer Digital Champion
Location: Community/Home Based
Hours: Flexible
We do not expect a minimum time commitment from any volunteer, however a minimum committment of 3hrs a week would be preferable.
ROLE PURPOSE: To motivate and inspire older people to make the most of digital technology and support older people to develop their basic digital skills i.e. surfing the internet, emails, social media, online banking etc. in a range of community settings, in a group or on a 1:1 basis.
A Digital Champion doesn’t have to be an IT whizz; they just need to have a bit of spare time, an enjoyment of being online themselves, be fairly confident with using different devices and, most of all, a willingness to help others. The most important skill a volunteer Digital Champion can have is to be enthusiastic about the benefits of being online and be willing to share this with others.
Requirements for the role:
- Good digital skills, including knowledge of popular applications.
- A passion and willingness to share your digital skills with others.
- Enjoys working with others
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that enable you to explain technology in a clear and simple way
- A good listener
- Ability to work with learners with different levels of knowledge and skill
- Patient and able to build trust with learners
