About the Role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and well-organised Activity Coordinator to lead the delivery of our Communities in Motion programme - an exciting two-year initiative funded by Age UK and the London Marathon Foundation to get more older people in Leicester physically active.
You’ll be at the heart of a programme that will bring physical activity sessions into communities across the city, from chair yoga and tai chi to walking netball and dance. You’ll commission a team of sessional instructors, coordinate a weekly timetable of sessions across multiple venues, plan and deliver mass-participation events, recruit and support volunteers, and make sure we’re collecting the data and stories that evidence our impact.
This is a hands-on coordination role - you’ll need to be comfortable juggling multiple workstreams, building relationships with a wide range of partners, and keeping things running smoothly day to day. You’ll work alongside the Finance team on budget monitoring and reporting, and you’ll be the main point of contact for funder reporting, working to agreed deadlines throughout the programme.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Securing, contracting and managing self-employed sessional instructors delivering a varied programme of physical activity sessions
- Scheduling a regular weekly timetable across Clarence House and external community venues
- Planning, organising and delivering mass-participation events including culturally specific and active events
- Recruiting, training and supervising volunteers to support sessions and events
- Building referral pathways with GP surgeries, social prescribers, community mental health teams, and the NHS Joy platform
- Maintaining accurate programme records and submitting monthly and quarterly reports to the funder
- Working with the marketing team to promote events and maximise participation
- Supporting the mandatory external evaluation of the programme
- Conducting follow-up calls with participants to collect the required data
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Level 2 qualification in a physical activity-related discipline (e.g. fitness instructing, exercise to music, gym instruction)
- Experience of coordinating or delivering physical activity, sport, or wellbeing programmes
- Experience of planning and delivering community events or group activities
- Experience of collecting, recording, and reporting programme data
- Understanding of the barriers to physical activity faced by older people
- Knowledge of safeguarding principles for working with vulnerable adults
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in IT systems for data collection and reporting (e.g. Microsoft Office, databases)
- Flexible - willing to work occasional evenings and weekends for events
- Car owner & driver with the ability to gain business insurance
Desirable:
- Level 3 Exercise for Older Adults, Later Life Training, or Postural Stability Instructor accreditation
- Experience of working within a charity or non-profit organisation
- Experience of working with older people
- Experience of volunteer recruitment and management
- Experience of working with NHS services, social prescribers, or public health teams
