Charities team up to offer online exercise support

Published on 20 May 2025 12:50 PM

Age UK Norwich has joined forces with Cambridge and Peterborough Mind to deliver a new online exercise support service aimed at helping individuals aged 16+ who are experiencing barriers to work and active living due to ill health.

The innovative service provides participants with tailored support to improve both their physical and mental wellbeing. The programme includes:

  • Four weeks of 1-2-1 online Health Coaching via Zoom: Participants receive personalised exercise plans designed to meet their individual needs and goals.
  • Educational Support: The programme also offers valuable education on nutrition, overall wellbeing, and the importance of hydration.

Early results from the programme have been overwhelmingly positive. Participants have reported significant benefits, with one stating "What I really enjoyed about the sessions was the sense of accountability it gave me. Knowing I had a scheduled appointment motivated me to actually do the work, which I knew was crucial for improving both my physical and mental health. The regularity of the sessions was also key; it provided a structure and direction that I found incredibly helpful in staying on track and making consistent progress.”

Another participant highlighted the positive impact on their physical health saying “I've definitely noticed some improvements. I feel a bit stronger, especially around my core, and my knee, which has been giving me trouble, has been hurting less.”

Key outcomes from the program include:

  • 75% of clients increased their physical activity levels
  • 100% of clients saw an improvement in their mental health
  • 100% of clients' overall health score improved

"This partnership with Cambridge and Peterborough Mind allows us to provide a vital service to people in our community who need it most," said Kelly Parkin, Age UK Norwich Health Specialist. " We're seeing firsthand how tailored exercise and support can make a real difference in people's lives, helping them to overcome barriers and improve their overall wellbeing. It's important to remember that wellbeing is crucial at any age, and establishing healthy habits and learning effective techniques in younger years can provide a strong foundation for a healthier and more fulfilling later life."

This collaboration between Age UK Norwich and Cambridge and Peterborough Mind reflects a shared commitment to providing holistic support. We  are addressing both the physical and mental health needs of individuals facing challenges in returning to or maintaining employment. By working closely with other charities, we can combine our expertise and resources to provide more comprehensive and effective support to those in need, ultimately strengthening our community as a whole.

Please note that this service is referral only. Individuals interested in participating cannot self-refer and must be referred by a Mind Work Well coach. This ensures that the programme is tailored to those who will benefit most from this specific type of support. If you believe this service could benefit someone you know, please encourage them to get in contact with Cambridge and Peterborough Mind.
