Age UK Norwich is proud to be taking part in Age UK’s Silver Sunday, the national day dedicated to celebrating older people. It will take place on Sunday 5th October 2025, with events taking place on the day and throughout the month in Norwich and across the country.
Age UK’s Silver Sunday sees hundreds of free and low-cost activities take place that are designed to help older people feel valued, as well as providing the opportunity for older people who are feeling lonely to re-connect with their communities and access local support.
Age UK Norwich is hosting a special Silver Sunday food-writing workshop at the National Centre for Writing, led by our Savour and Share over-65s writing group. Taking place on Sunday 5th October from 11am–12:30pm in the Great Hall at Dragon Hall, King Street, Norwich, the event will guide participants through simple creative exercises to explore memories and stories inspired by food and recipes, celebrating the flavours of Norwich and beyond.
Denise Troughton, Campaign and Policy Lead at Age UK Norwich said: “Silver Sunday provides an opportunity for the people of Norwich, across all generations, to come together and celebrate older people in our society.
“With research showing that 170,000 older people in the East of England never leave their home for a social event, it also gives older people who may be feeling lonely the chance to connect with their community, try new things and perhaps make some new friends. We hope too that by coming along to an event with us on Silver Sunday gives people a taste of what Age UK Norwich has to offer all year round, as we know it takes time to build real connections and confidence.
“We’d encourage any older people in the area to attend our event and also those who want to show their support for the older people in our area.”
