Norfolk Trusted Trader has an online directory of more than 200 tradespeople across the county, offering everything from building work to boiler repairs, cleaning to carpentry.

Each one of them is backed by Norfolk County Council and approved by its Trading Standards team – so you can choose someone from the directory to carry out work for you or your loved one with confidence and avoid rogue traders.

The scheme was created nearly 15 years ago to give people in Norfolk a safe way to access services and avoid the rogue traders who can sadly exploit people in our communities, especially those who are more vulnerable.

To become a member of the only approved trader scheme from Norfolk County Council, businesses must pass a range of checks and agree to abide by a code of conduct, which includes:

• trading fairly, honestly and having appropriate insurances
• clear pricing and providing all required documentation for work undertaken
• ensuring all employees and sub-contractors are appropriately trained
• members will not seek work by cold calling
• fully participate with the scheme’s complaints process should an issue arise between customer and trader

Key to the scheme is customer feedback. Any customer can write a review on all aspects of the work they’ve had carried out, i.e. cost, timescales, communication, cleanliness etc. which is then displayed on the directory.
